Terms of Use
Effective September 2, 2026
Agreement
These Terms of Use govern your use of the KeyHollow application and website. By downloading, accessing, or using KeyHollow, you agree to these terms and the applicable Apple App Store terms. If you do not agree, do not use KeyHollow.
Apps obtained through the App Store are licensed, not sold. Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies unless a valid custom agreement is provided. These terms supplement applicable Apple terms and do not limit rights that cannot lawfully be limited.
What KeyHollow provides
The current version of KeyHollow provides local, on-device encrypted photo vaults plus encrypted .khvault export and restore. It does not provide an account, KeyHollow-operated cloud backup, remote recovery, LowKey reset, recovery-code reset, or a guarantee that data can be restored after loss of access.
Copy and Move
Copy to Vault is intended to retain the original item in Apple Photos. Move to Vault is designed to encrypt and verify a vault copy before asking iOS to delete the selected original. Deletion remains subject to Apple's permission and confirmation processes.
You are responsible for reviewing prompts, maintaining any originals or independent backups you need, ensuring adequate device storage and power, and confirming the result of an import before relying on KeyHollow as the only location for important media.
Encrypted archive export and restore
An exported .khvault archive is protected by a new random 32-character recovery code that is separate from the vault’s local LowKey. You are responsible for recording that code accurately, keeping it separate from the archive, protecting both from unauthorized access, and verifying a restored vault before deleting any original or prior copy.
You choose where an archive is saved or shared. Apple and any third-party Files, storage, messaging, or sharing provider you select operate under their own terms and privacy practices. Anyone who obtains both an archive and its recovery code may attempt to restore its contents. Loss of either may make restoration impossible.
Acceptable use
You may use KeyHollow only for lawful purposes and only with content you own or are authorized to possess. You may not use the application to violate another person's privacy, intellectual-property rights, contractual rights, or applicable law; attempt unauthorized access to another person's device or data; interfere with the application; or circumvent security and platform restrictions.
Your content
You retain ownership of content you place in KeyHollow. KeyHollow does not obtain ownership of your vault contents. The current application processes vault content locally as described in the Privacy Policy.
Security limitations
KeyHollow is designed to reduce unauthorized access, but no application, device, encryption system, or storage medium is immune from every defect, attack, compromise, or failure. Protections may be weakened on a compromised, modified, maliciously controlled, or already-unlocked device. Do not use KeyHollow as the sole copy of irreplaceable information.
Updates and compatibility
KeyHollow may provide updates that improve security, compatibility, reliability, or functionality. Continued compatibility with every device, operating-system version, external service, or future Apple policy is not guaranteed. Features may change when reasonably necessary for security, law, platform requirements, or product operation.
Third-party services
Apple controls the App Store, purchases, refunds, device permissions, Photo Library actions, document picker, and related platform services under Apple's own terms. Third-party Files, storage, messaging, and sharing providers operate under their own terms. KeyHollow is not responsible for third-party services outside its reasonable control.
Disclaimer of warranties
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, KeyHollow is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis without warranties of uninterrupted operation, error-free performance, absolute security, fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, noninfringement, or guaranteed preservation or recovery of data. Some jurisdictions do not permit certain exclusions, so those exclusions apply only to the extent permitted by law.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, KeyHollow and its provider will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, media, profits, revenue, business, goodwill, or use arising from or related to KeyHollow. To the maximum extent permitted by law, aggregate liability for claims relating to KeyHollow will not exceed the amount you paid for the application during the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.
These limitations do not exclude liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited, and they do not reduce mandatory consumer rights.
Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated to reflect product, legal, security, or platform changes. The effective date above identifies the current version. If a change materially affects your rights, notice will be provided where reasonably required.
